Protest at TUDA office over Lighthouse Housing Project delay

Date:

Agartala, 1ST June 2026:   Frustrated by years of delay, several customers of the Lighthouse Housing Project at Border Golchakkar staged a protest today at the office of the Tripura Urban Planning and Development Authority (TUDA).

The demonstrators alleged that although they were assured possession of their flats by 2022, nearly five years have passed without delivery. Many buyers have already paid in two to three installments, yet the progress of construction remains painfully slow.

One protester lamented, “We invested our hard-earned money with the hope of owning a permanent home. Today, that dream has turned into a nightmare.”

According to the aggrieved customers, TUDA has repeatedly made promises that have not materialized. Their demand is clear: either hand over the flats immediately or refund the deposited money with interest. Another buyer asserted, “If they cannot deliver the flats, they must return our money with interest. We cannot wait any longer.”

TUDA officials have reportedly assured completion of the project and handover of flats by December 2026. However, the buyers expressed little faith in this timeline, pointing out that at the current pace of construction, possession may remain uncertain for another seven to eight years.

Several customers have appealed to Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha to intervene. They voiced confidence that the Chief Minister would take the matter seriously and ensure a speedy resolution.

Anger and discontent among the project’s customers continue to mount. Protesters warned that if the flats are not handed over by December 2026, they will intensify their agitation and press harder for refunds with interest.

As one customer summed up, “We can no longer be ignored. A quick solution is the need of the hour.”
