Agartala, 1ST June 2026: Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced its budget for the financial year 2026–27, totaling Rs 975 crore 91 lakh.
The budget was presented by Mayor Dipak Majumdar at a meeting held in the corporation’s conference hall. The financial plan reflects a deficit of Rs 97 lakh 67 thousand. However, the Mayor confirmed that there will be no introduction of new taxes in the upcoming fiscal year.
According to Majumdar, the budget prioritizes comprehensive urban development, improved civic amenities, and large-scale infrastructure upgrades. He also highlighted that this is the first time AMC has introduced an e-budget format. He explained that although the revenue segment remains in surplus, the overall deficit has been caused by increased capital expenditure. Despite this, he assured that development projects will continue without disruption.
A major highlight of the budget is the increased allocation for infrastructure development. The civic body has also proposed raising Rs 100 crore through municipal bonds as an alternative funding source. Continued focus has been placed on centrally and externally assisted projects.
The budget further includes measures to enhance the corporation’s own revenue generation through better tax collection and improved financial management.
Mayor Majumdar described the budget as a balanced and forward-thinking financial roadmap aimed at sustainable urban growth, modern infrastructure, and improved public services. He added that expected future surpluses would help strengthen welfare and development initiatives in the city.
