Agartala, 10th June 2026: Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta CHowhdury today said that Chobimura, often referred to as the “Amazon of Tripura” and the “Amazon of North-East India” for its rich natural beauty, is set to be further developed as a major tourist destination.
He said that te State Tourism Department has initiated a renovation and development project aimed at enhancing the site’s attractiveness for both domestic and international tourists.
“The foundation stone for the project has already been laid, and construction work is currently in progress. An on-site inspection of the ongoing work was conducted today, during which officials reviewed the progress and directed that the project be completed within the stipulated timeframe while ensuring high standards of quality”, said the Minister.
During the visit, a review meeting was also held with the participation of ADC Executive Officer C.K. Jamatiya, Shri Ranjit Das, Tourism Department Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma, and Director Prashant Badal Negi, along with representatives from the Tourism Department, District Administration, and local leaders.
The meeting focused on improving tourist facilities and ensuring better management and services at the site.
The development initiative is expected to make Chobimura more accessible, organized, and tourist-friendly, strengthening its position as one of the key attractions in the region.
