Border tension in Tripura: Two Bangladeshi youths held after illegal entry

Date:

Agartala, 13th June 2026:   In a dramatic incident near the Indo-Bangladesh border, two Bangladeshi youths attempted to cross into Indian territory through the barbed-wire fencing at Debipur Rajartila under Kamalasagar border area. Their plan, reportedly to earn a livelihood by pulling rickshaws in India, ended abruptly when local residents intercepted them.

Locals informed that the youths were caught by villagers who then subjected them to a severe beating before handing them over to the Border Security Force (BSF). The incident has raised serious questions about border vigilance, as locals ask: Where was the BSF when the infiltration took place?

The two men have been identified as Mohammad Akash (24), son of Abdul Rahim Ali, resident of Kaimpur, Shahadatpur police station, Sirajganj district, Bangladesh, and Barat Ali (18), son of late Zahirul Islam, also from Kaimpur, Shahadatpur, Sirajganj district. Both sustained injuries in the mob assault and were later taken to Madhupur police station for medical attention and further investigation.

The episode comes just days after India’s Home Minister visited Tripura and issued strong directives to prevent cross-border infiltration. Despite these assurances, the incident highlights vulnerabilities along the frontier. Locals fear that if such infiltrators had entered with malicious intent, the consequences could have been far more serious.

Authorities are now probing whether the youths crossed over purely for work or if there were other motives behind their illegal entry. The case underscores growing concerns about border security, illegal immigration, and the role of BSF vigilance in safeguarding sensitive areas.
