Agartala, 13th June 2026: A two-day national seminar-cum-workshop focusing on the Chakma script, language, and literature was organized at the Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel in Agartala with the aim of preserving and promoting the linguistic heritage of the Chakma community.
State Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma formally inaugurated the event on Friday. The workshop was organized by the Department of School Education, Government of Tripura, with a special focus on Kokborok and other minority languages. MLA Shambhu Lal Chakma, who is also the Chairman of the Advisory Committee for Chakma Language Development, attended the programme along with other dignitaries.
During the seminar, experts and participants held detailed discussions on the development, preservation, and expansion of Chakma language and literature. Shambhu Lal Chakma expressed concern that the language is gradually facing challenges due to declining usage and practice.
He said a roadmap was prepared during the workshop to strengthen and promote the Chakma language. Special emphasis was given to the Chakma script, with participants expressing hope that the language would gain greater scientific recognition and its cultural identity would be preserved for future generations.
