Agartala, 15th June 2026: A section of the Tripura Police force has drawn sharp public criticism over a growing trend of officers making and uploading “reels” and entertainment videos on social media while in official uniform. Concerned citizens allege that the trend is tarnishing the image of the law enforcement agency and violating existing department restrictions regarding online posts. Locals are now demanding immediate intervention from the Director General of Police (DGP) and District Superintendents of Police (SPs) to enforce stricter disciplinary guidelines.
According to local complaints, the obsession with gaining likes, shares, and followers has compromised the discipline of the force. Both male and female personnel, including new recruits following the examples of seniors, are reportedly using their uniforms as props.Videos circulating on platforms like Facebook show uniformed personnel lip-syncing, singing, showcasing domestic moments, and hanging out with friends. More alarmingly, some posts allegedly feature footage from inside police training centers and other restricted areas, raising serious flags regarding departmental security.
Conscious citizens are questioning how members of a critical security force can show such disregard for institutional rules. They point out that Tripura is a strategically sensitive border state, making internal security and data protection paramount.
By broadcasting their daily routines, locations, and identities as police officers, personnel may inadvertently expose geographical vulnerabilities or fall prey to cybercriminals and foreign elements looking to harvest sensitive information. Locals cited the rapid, viral spread of the recent online phenomenon “Cockroach Janata Party” as proof of how easily communication networks can be manipulated on a global scale.
While some personnel argue that many of these videos are old, the public maintains that compromising the dignity of the uniform—whether past or present—is a violation of professional conduct. Furthermore, the continued visibility of older videos motivates newer recruits to imitate the behavior.
Citizens have urged senior police officials to immediately issue strict prohibitory orders and initiate departmental inquiries against those violating the dress code to prevent future infractions.
