Agartala, 18th June 2026: Jatrapur Police achieved a major breakthrough in a late-night operation after acting on a tip-off regarding the illegal storage of firearms and narcotic substances in the Bansh Pukur Gram Panchayat area.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jatrapur Police Station Parthanath Bhowmik said that police received information on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday that a firearm and illicit drugs were allegedly kept at the residence of Akhtar Hossain in Moharram Ali Para. Following the information, the OC along with Sub-Inspectors Bijoy Chakraborty and Rumi Akhtar, TSR personnel, and police constables reached the spot at around 3 AM and conducted a search operation.
During the search, police recovered 20 kg 500 grams of dried cannabis stored inside a plastic drum, 20 bottles of ‘S-Cough’ syrup, and a country-made firearm from the house. The seized narcotic substances and weapon were taken into police custody, while 24-year-old Akhtar Hossain, the homeowner, was brought to the police station for further investigation.
The recovery has created a stir among local residents, as such a major seizure involving narcotics and a firearm has reportedly taken place in the area after a long gap. Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to identify possible links behind the illegal activities.
