Wife leaves home, man attempts suicide in Agartala

Agartala, 18th June 2026:   A man identified as Nayan Das attempted to take his own life after allegedly being abandoned by his wife, creating a tense situation near Jagannath Bari in the capital city. Nayan, a resident of Ramnagar Road No. 4, was rescued by police personnel from West Agartala Police Station and rushed to the hospital.

According to reports, Nayan had married Rama Harijan of Border Gol Chakkar area five years ago. He claimed their relationship was going well initially, but recently his wife allegedly left the house with cash and gold ornaments.

Nayan said he had sold his house and belongings for the sake of his family. After repeated calls to his wife went unanswered, he consumed pesticide and injured himself with a sharp weapon in desperation. Despite the attempt, he survived and was found sitting injured on the roadside. Speaking to the media, Nayan said he still wants his wife to return.
