Agartala, 21st June 2026: The 12th International Yoga Day was celebrated across Tripura with great enthusiasm on Sunday, highlighting the importance of yoga in maintaining physical fitness, mental peace, and a healthy lifestyle. This year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” emphasized the role of regular yoga practice in ensuring wellness at every stage of life.
In North Tripura district, a grand Yoga Day programme was organized at the Gourishekhar Roy Sports Indoor Hall in Dharmanagar under the initiative of the District Department of Youth Affairs and Sports. The event was inaugurated by State Minister for Forest, Science, Technology and Environment Animesh Debbarma.
MLA Jahar Chakraborty, who attended the programme as chief guest, stated that yoga is not merely an exercise but a way of life that promotes discipline, positivity, and harmony. Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Aparna Nath, Dharmanagar Municipal Council Chairperson Mitali Rani Das Sen, and other dignitaries were also present. More than a hundred participants joined the mass yoga session and performed various asanas and pranayama under the guidance of instructors.
Meanwhile, in Dhalai district, the main Yoga Day celebration was held at the Dhalai District Sports Hall in Ambassa. Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Sushmita Das inaugurated the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Government officials, students, and members of different organizations participated in the yoga session. Sushmita Das highlighted that yoga is an effective means of maintaining physical and mental health and urged citizens to practice yoga regularly for a disease-free and active life.
In Sabroom, multiple programmes were organized to mark the occasion. A special yoga session was conducted at the Sabroom Border Outpost by ‘F’ Company of the 114 Battalion BSF, where jawans participated enthusiastically. Deputy Commandant R.L. Meena said yoga improves physical strength, mental resilience, and work efficiency, especially for personnel engaged in challenging duties.
A ‘Yoga Mahotsav’ was also organized at Sri Sri Ramthakur Seva Mandir under the guidance of Patanjali Yoga Peeth. Local residents, yoga enthusiasts, students, and teachers participated in the event. Speakers highlighted yoga’s role in healthy ageing and spreading awareness about a balanced lifestyle.
The celebrations across Tripura concluded with a common message—regular yoga practice can help people achieve better health, mental peace, and a more active life.
