Agartala, 21st June 2026: Sensation spread across the capital city after the body of a youth was recovered from near the Katakhal canal in the Ranjitnagar area on Sunday morning. The deceased was identified as Shubhajit Pal, son of Bishwajit Pal, a resident of Chandinamura, Agartala. Shubhajit worked as a tiles mason.
After receiving information about the recovery of the body, a team from the West Agartala Police Station along with forensic experts reached the spot and started an investigation. The forensic team collected samples from the area as part of the preliminary probe.
According to family sources, Shubhajit had left his home around 5:00 AM last Thursday and did not return. Family members searched for him at various places but failed to trace his whereabouts. On Sunday morning, local residents noticed a body lying near the Katakhal canal and informed the police. The police recovered the body, which was later identified by family members as Shubhajit Pal.
Meanwhile, Shubhajit’s brother has alleged that the death was not natural and expressed suspicion that he may have been murdered. The family has demanded a fair and detailed investigation to reveal the actual circumstances behind the incident.
However, local sources claimed that Shubhajit was known to have issues related to substance abuse, raising questions about the possible cause of death. Police officials said that all angles are being examined and no possibility has been ruled out at this stage.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after receiving the autopsy report. A case of unnatural death has been registered at West Agartala Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
