Allegation of irregularities at Teliamura Fisheries dept over removal of fish spawn without challan

Date:

Agartala, 23rd June 2026:   Serious allegations of irregularities have emerged from the Teliamura Fisheries Department, with the department’s Superintendent Ajit Debbarma accused of attempting to remove government fish spawn without following official procedures.

Sources informed that a large quantity of fish spawn was allegedly taken out of the department premises on Monday through a hired auto-rickshaw without the knowledge or presence of the farm in-charge. It has been alleged that Superintendent Ajit Debbarma was directly involved in arranging the removal.

Local residents claimed that the fish spawn was collected by an auto-rickshaw driver known to the Superintendent without informing the concerned farm in-charge or issuing a valid challan (official dispatch document), which is mandatory for transporting government property.

Sources further alleged that Ajit Debbarma was present near the vehicle during the incident. The matter reportedly created tension in the area, following which the Superintendent allegedly left the spot when the situation became controversial.

Speaking about the incident, the Fisheries Department’s farm in-charge stated that no official challan had been issued as per government rules. He alleged that an attempt was made to remove the fish spawn without his knowledge and approval.

However, Superintendent Ajit Debbarma denied wrongdoing and claimed that the challan process would be completed after dispatching the fish spawn. He reportedly stated that a new system had been introduced in which the spawn is sent first and payment is deposited later.

The incident has raised questions over whether government property was removed in violation of established procedures or whether an unofficial practice was being followed within the department.

According to existing government norms, transportation of government materials without proper documentation is not permitted. Following the allegations, local residents have demanded a thorough investigation into the matter and strict action if any violation is found. The role of the administration in monitoring such activities has also come under scrutiny.
