100 Kg Dry Ganja Worth Rs 20 Lakh Seized in Sonamura; Probe Underway

Date:

Agartala, 25th June 2026:   In a major anti-narcotics operation, Sonamura Police recovered and seized 100 kilograms of dry ganja during mobile patrol duty in the Majidabari border area on Thursday.

According to Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das of Sonamura Police Station, police personnel conducting routine mobile duty found 50 packets of dry ganja abandoned in the border area. As no claimant came forward and the contraband appeared to have been illegally stored for transportation, the police seized the entire consignment after observing all legal formalities.

The seized ganja weighed approximately 100 kg and has an estimated market value of around Rs 20 lakh. Speaking on the recovery, OC Tapas Das said that the contraband was recovered as unclaimed property and was subsequently seized in accordance with the law. He added that an investigation has been launched to identify the individuals involved and determine the intended recipients and source of the narcotics.

Police suspect the consignment may have been linked to an illegal cross-border smuggling network operating in the area. Efforts are underway to trace the owner and uncover the route used for transporting the contraband.
