Agartala, 27th June 2026: Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath today said that, to fulfil the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vocal for Local and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives and make them a reality, the Tripura Global Pineapple Festival 2026 was organized in New Delhi today.
The Minister said this while addressing the Tripura Global Pineapple Festival 2026, organized in New Delhi today, in the presence of Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha and Minister of State for DoNER Dr. Sukanta Majumder.
He said that the main aim of this festival is not only to take Tripura’s pineapple to the world stage but also to promote tourism, culture, bamboo production, and other sectors, and present them before national and international delegations.
“Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to office, the agriculture sector has achieved massive success, and due to the Act East Policy, this has been possible. The pineapple of Tripura is famous worldwide. The weather of Tripura helps the pineapple grow perfectly and makes it one of the best in India. The Janajati farmers cultivate the Queen and Kew varieties of pineapple. In 2014, the Queen variety of pineapple got the GI tag, and in 2018, we declared it the state fruit of Tripura,” he said.
Dr. Saha said that the Queen pineapple is very sweet, delicious, has a very good fragrance, and does not rot for a long time, making it suitable for export anywhere.
“Due to these two varieties of pineapple, Tripura is now in a good position. Since 2018, we have exported around 33 MT of pineapple to Dubai, Qatar, Oman, and Bangladesh. Apart from this, we have exported pineapples in containers to Germany and Russia. We have also exported 15,000 MT of pineapple to Assam, Karnataka, West Bengal, Delhi, and Odisha. We have undertaken a project worth Rs 234 crore with the help of the Central Government and the Ministry of DoNER for the marketing, processing, and other activities related to Queen pineapple. We have also planned to set up two bromelain extraction centre plants in Agartala and Gomati district, from where there are possibilities of earning Rs 12 to 18 crore every year from each plant,” he said.
As part of this three-day-long programme, cultural programmes highlighting the tradition and culture of Tripura will be held every day.
