NFR commissions 345 kWp On-grid rooftop solar power plant at Agartala coaching depot

Date:

Agartala, 29th June 2026:  In a major step towards promoting sustainable and green energy initiatives, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has successfully installed and commissioned a 345 kWp on-grid rooftop solar power plant at the Agartala Coaching Depot.

The project has been undertaken to utilize renewable energy and optimize the utilization of available rooftop space, in line with Indian Railways’ commitment to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency.

According to NFR, the solar power system is currently generating more electrical energy than the building consumes, making the facility a net positive energy building. Surplus power generated during daytime is being exported back to the grid, thereby contributing to green energy generation and reducing dependence on conventional sources of electricity. The initiative is expected to bring substantial savings in energy costs and reduce peak demand dependency. Apart from lowering electricity consumption from conventional sources, the project will help reduce carbon emissions and the overall carbon footprint.

“The commissioning of the 345 kWp on-grid rooftop solar power plant forms part of Northeast Frontier Railway’s ongoing efforts to adopt clean energy solutions and develop eco-friendly infrastructure. Through such initiatives, NFR remains committed to promoting sustainability, enhancing energy efficiency and contributing to the national objective of achieving a greener and cleaner future”, said NFR.
