Tripura Police Seize 271 kg Cannabis, Two Arrested in Coordinated Operation

Agartala, 29th June 2026:  In a major anti-narcotics crackdown, Tripura Police arrested two individuals after recovering 271 kg of cannabis from a vehicle during a coordinated operation across Dhalai and Unakoti districts.

According to SDPO Utpalendu Debnath, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs. Police initially intercepted a suspected vehicle near Durga Chowmuhani in Kamalpur area of Dhalai district.

The occupants allegedly tried to mislead the police by providing false identities and claiming links with local organizations. Their responses, however, raised suspicion. When questioned further, the situation escalated and the suspects reportedly resisted the police and fled from the spot.

Following the incident, alert messages were quickly circulated and nearby checkpoints were strengthened. Acting on this, police set up a blockade at Demdum Naka Point in Fatikroy under Kumarghat subdivision of Unakoti district.

When the vehicle attempted to breach the barricade and escape, security personnel intercepted it successfully. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 271 kg of dry cannabis, packed in 167 packets. Officials estimate the seized contraband to be worth around Rs 15 lakh.

Two persons were arrested on the spot in connection with the seizure.Police said further investigation is underway to identify and dismantle the wider network behind the illegal consignment.
