Line man dies of electrocution while working on power line

Date:

Agartala, 29th June 2026:  A tragic incident in Totabari under Kalyanpur Police Station has sparked widespread outrage after a daily wage worker died from electrocution while carrying out maintenance work on an ST power line. The incident has raised serious concerns over the alleged negligence of the Electricity Department and adherence to safety protocols.

The deceased has been identified as Bidhu Kapali, a resident of Khowai Praharmura, who was working under contractor Samiran Debnath on the maintenance of an ST electricity line.

According to allegations, electricity supply was suddenly restored while workers were still engaged in maintenance work, reportedly without any prior warning or confirmation that the line was clear. Bidhu Kapali came into contact with the live high-voltage line and suffered severe electric shock.

His fellow workers immediately rescued him and rushed him to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead.

The incident has left co-workers and local residents in shock and anger. Several questions have been raised regarding the circumstances surrounding the accident. Residents are demanding to know how the power supply could have been restored while maintenance work was in progress and whether mandatory safety procedures, including proper coordination and line-clearance protocols, were followed.
