Tripura Legislative Assembly Celebrates 63rd Foundation Day; Governor Calls House “Temple of Democracy”

Date:

Agartala, 1st July 2026:   Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu today described the Legislative Assembly as the “temple of democracy,” stating that its sanctity is defined by the ideals, dedication, and spirit of service demonstrated by its members.

Speaking at the 63rd Foundation Day celebration of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, held in the Assembly lobby this morning, the Governor said that elected representatives are in the House not for personal gain but to serve the people who have placed their trust in them.

“The representatives of the people have come to the Legislative Assembly not for themselves but to serve those who have elected them by trusting and believing in them,” Governor Nallu said.

He further noted that the state government is working to improve the economic and social conditions of citizens by strengthening education and healthcare services. According to him, significant progress has been achieved in maintaining law and order, ensuring peace, developing infrastructure, and advancing the agricultural sector. He also highlighted notable achievements in the development of tribal communities.

Expressing optimism for the future, the Governor appealed to both ruling and opposition members to continue working together for the development of Tripura. He also reflected on the state’s historical journey—from its accession to the Union of India to its attainment of full statehood and the establishment of a fully functioning Legislative Assembly.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath delivered the inaugural address, outlining the historical evolution of Tripura and its Legislative Assembly. He emphasized the state’s rich heritage and expressed hope that current legislators will continue to work collectively for the welfare of the people.

Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury also addressed the gathering, stating that India’s democratic system is among the strongest in the world. He paid tribute to former MLAs of the Tripura Legislative Assembly and acknowledged their contributions to the state’s democratic journey.
