Agartala, 10th July 2026: The threat of severe weather conditions is looming over Tripura as the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state. An orange alert has been issued for West Tripura, Sepahijala, and South Tripura districts for tomorrow, warning of intense rainfall activity. A yellow alert has been issued for all other districts due to the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The sky remained cloudy across the state on Thursday. The maximum temperature recorded was 29.6 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was 25 degrees Celsius. Morning temperatures in all districts remained close to normal levels.
According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon trough at sea level is extending from Ganganagar through Hisar, the centre of a low-pressure area over north-central Madhya Pradesh, Gorakhpur, Purnia, and further southeastwards up to Mizoram.
Additionally, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is prevailing over eastern Bangladesh and adjoining areas at an altitude of around 3.1 to 4.5 km above sea level. The system is tilted southwards with height and remains active. Another upper-air cyclonic circulation is present over northeastern Assam at around 0.9 km above sea level.
Under the influence of these weather systems, rainfall activity is expected to continue across the northeastern states in the coming days. Weather experts have predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in Tripura, Assam, Mizoram, and adjoining regions. There is also a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms at one or two places in Tripura.
The Meteorological Department has advised people to remain cautious as all districts of Tripura may experience heavy rainfall, with particularly intense showers expected in West Tripura, Sepahijala, and South Tripura. The weather department reported that several areas have already received significant rainfall. Agartala recorded 41 mm of rain, Edinagar 43.3 mm, Lembuchhara 53 mm, Bodhjungnagar 45 mm, and Yumlung 59 mm.
In Sepahijala district, Sonamura received 45 mm, Bishalgarh 21.4 mm, Gajaria 66.4 mm, and Sonamura Mohanbhog recorded 69.6 mm of rainfall. Khowai district recorded 36.2 mm rainfall, while Teliamura received 15 mm. In Gomati district, Udaipur recorded 50 mm, Amarpur 26 mm, Karbook 13 mm, and Gakulpur 17.5 mm.
South Tripura district also witnessed heavy showers, with Belonia receiving 45 mm, Sabroom 83.5 mm, and Bagafa 31.6 mm rainfall.Other districts also reported rainfall, including Panisagar (4.5 mm), Kanchanpur (1.2 mm), Ashapara (3 mm), Kadamtala (6 mm), and Nutanbazar (4.2 mm) in North Tripura. Unakoti district recorded 7 mm in Kumarghat and 17.2 mm in Kailashahar.
In Dhalai district, Chawmanu recorded 4.4 mm, Gandacherra 17.5 mm, Kamalpur 15.2 mm, and Manughat received 9 mm of rainfall.The authorities have urged residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions as heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are likely to continue across Tripura.
