TMSU marks 45th foundation day, renews call for workers’ rights and democracy: CITU

Date:

Agartala, 11th July 2026:   The Tripura Motor Workers Union (TMSU) on Saturday observed its 45th foundation day, with CITU State General Secretary Sankar Prasad Datta highlighting the union’s long-standing role in safeguarding the rights of motor transport workers while contributing to peace and stability in the state.

Addressing the anniversary programme, Datta said the movement for transport workers’ rights in Tripura has never been confined solely to labour-related demands but has also been linked to broader social concerns. Recalling the circumstances under which the union was formed 44 years ago, he said the state was witnessing unrest, frequent road blockades, and disruptions in vehicle movement. During that period, TMSU worked to ensure that transport services continued uninterrupted so that the general public did not suffer.

Referring to the present political situation, Datta alleged that democratic values in Tripura have been undermined and that people are unable to express their opinions freely. He said observing the union’s 45th foundation day carries special significance in such an environment.

Claiming that injustice and oppression cannot continue indefinitely, Datta said history has repeatedly shown that no authoritarian rule lasts forever. He added that transport workers in Tripura have always stood alongside people from different sections of society in resisting injustice.

On the occasion, he called upon transport workers to reaffirm their commitment to restoring peace, communal harmony, goodwill, and democratic values in the state while continuing their struggle to protect workers’ rights.
