Agartala, 11th July 2026: The Central Government Pensioners’ Association, Tripura, on Saturday expressed deep concern over issues related to pensions, healthcare facilities, and the proposed 8th Pay Commission during its biennial conference held in Agartala. The association also warned that it would launch a democratic movement if the Centre failed to address the grievances of pensioners.
Speaking to media personnel, Association Secretary Manik Bhattacharjee said the organisation, which has members from various Central Government departments including the Accountant General’s office, Income Tax, Customs and the Geological Survey of India (GSI), was holding its biennial conference to elect a new committee and deliberate on key issues affecting pensioners.
Bhattacharjee said one of the major concerns was the absence of any clear reference to pensioners in the discussions surrounding the 8th Pay Commission. He alleged that this had created uncertainty over the future of pensions, allowances and healthcare benefits for retired employees.
He also criticised a law passed during the 2025 Budget Session, claiming it could allow the government to differentiate between “old” and “new” pensioners, leading to unequal pension benefits. According to him, previous Pay Commissions had always incorporated provisions safeguarding the interests of pensioners, but the current framework had left retirees anxious.
Highlighting local issues, Bhattacharjee said Central Government pensioners in Tripura continue to face inadequate healthcare facilities under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). He stressed that the existing medical infrastructure and services available to beneficiaries in the state remain insufficient.
The association resolved to remain united in pursuing its demands and announced that it would intensify its campaign if necessary. Bhattacharjee asserted that if the government failed to ensure fair pensions, allowances and healthcare facilities, pensioners would not hesitate to organise protests despite their advanced age. He said the conference would also chalk out future strategies to safeguard the rights and welfare of Central Government pensioners.
