Census of Reang Bru resumes across Tripura Under Government Initiative

Date:

Agartala, 12th July 2026:   The special census of the Reang Bru tribal community in Tripura has resumed under the initiative of the Government of India’s PTG Department. The survey work began on a large scale from last Friday simultaneously across eight districts of the state.

The entire census process is being conducted with the coordination of four social organisations. The primary responsibility of coordination and supervision has been entrusted to the Bru Sangkanma Mothoh social organisation. The other supporting organisations involved in the exercise are BSCO, YBA and BSM.

Addressing a press conference, General Secretary of the Bru Sangkanma Mothoh organisation, Khanaram Reang, said that initially people from communities other than the Reang community had been appointed for the census work. After the matter came to the attention of their organisation, it was raised with the concerned department as well as through the media.

Following this, the PTG Department reviewed the issue and took a fresh decision to ensure the active participation of the concerned Reang organisations in the census process.

Khanaram Reang further stated that the PTG Department has directed that the entire census exercise be completed within 15 days. The main objective of the initiative is to collect accurate data on the actual population, social conditions and economic status of the Reang Bru community and submit reliable information to the government for future planning and development programmes.

A press conference was organised on Sunday at the residence of Amrit Reang in Rabindra Reang Para of Birchandra Manu area under Santirbazar subdivision of South Tripura. During the event, Khanaram Reang highlighted various aspects of the census, the role of the participating organisations and future plans.

He appealed to all Reang families to extend their cooperation by providing correct information to ensure the successful completion of the census.
