Agartala, 13th July 2026: The government’s paddy procurement drive officially commenced on Monday at Rajibnagar under South Tripura’s Satcchand Block, bringing cheer to local farmers.
The Agriculture Department has set a target of purchasing 1,000 metric tons of paddy from cultivators across Satcchand, Poangbari, and Rupaichari agri sub-divisions.
The programme was inaugurated at 11 a.m. by Dipak Dutta, Sabhadhipati of the South Tripura Zilla Parishad. The event was attended by Satcchand Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Prabhas Lodh, Satcchand Agri Sub-Division Superintendent Manohar Das, along with officials and dignitaries from the Agriculture Department.
Speakers at the event highlighted that the initiative aims to ensure fair prices for farmers and strengthen their financial security. They praised the government’s farmer-friendly policies, noting that such programmes will further boost the rural economy.
Sabhadhipati Dipak Dutta emphasized that the state government is consistently working to double farmers’ income, with paddy procurement being a vital part of this mission. He assured that similar initiatives will continue in the future.
Agriculture Department sources confirmed that registration for nearly 500 metric tons of paddy has already been completed. The procurement drive will continue until July 21, spanning nine days.
The opportunity to sell paddy at fair prices has created widespread enthusiasm among farmers in the region, who believe the initiative will enhance their financial independence and encourage greater participation in agriculture.
