Agartala, 19th July 2026: The Tripura State Committee of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) will organise a protest programme on July 20 demanding the unconditional implementation of 33% reservation for women in Parliament. The programme will be held at Battala in the state, while similar demonstrations will take place at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi during the monsoon session of Parliament.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, AIDWA leader Panchali Bhattacharjee announced that the protest in Tripura would begin at 11 am. She said the organisation would continue its demand for immediate implementation of women’s reservation without any conditions.
Bhattacharjee criticised the Central government, stating that 12 years have passed since the Narendra Modi-led government came to power in 2014, yet the Women’s Reservation Bill has not been fully implemented. She termed the delay a failure of the government and alleged that it had “bowed down before opposition pressure,” which, according to her, indicates that the government is not serious about the issue.
She claimed that Left Front organisations had played a leading role in raising the demand for women’s reservation and added that other organisations would also participate in the upcoming protest programmes.
AIDWA leader Krishna Rakshit and other members of the organisation were also present at the press conference.
