Agartala, 21st July 2026: Anganwadi workers and helpers under the Gournagar block of Kailashahar in Unakoti district have raised concerns over pending payments and other demands. On Tuesday, they submitted a 10-point memorandum to the Inspector of the district ICDS department, warning that tiffin services at Anganwadi centres will be stopped from August 1 if their demands are not fulfilled by July 31.
A delegation of Anganwadi workers and helpers from Gournagar block met ICDS Inspector Bidyasagar Debbarma on Tuesday afternoon and submitted their demands. The delegation was led by Geeta Rani Namas, Tuli Sinha, Shipra Ghosh, Sufia Begum, Hasna Begum and others.
After submitting the memorandum, Anganwadi worker Shipra Ghosh alleged that payments for tiffin services have remained unpaid for the past five months, while mobile recharge allowances have not been provided for nearly two years. She said the delay in payments has made it difficult to run the centres smoothly.
The workers demanded implementation of gratuity benefits as per Supreme Court directions, regularisation of workers and helpers, equal pay for equal work, an increase in feeding allowances according to market prices, advance payment of SNP bills, clearance of 28 months of contingency bills from the 2023-26 financial years, a monthly mobile recharge allowance of Rs 300, equal incentive payments and timely supply of quality ration.
They also demanded that errors in Poshan Tracker-related work should be resolved through discussion instead of taking disciplinary action against workers.
The Anganwadi workers warned that if their pending dues and demands are not addressed by July 31, all Anganwadi centres under Gournagar block will stop providing tiffin services from August 1. As a result, children will not receive nutritional items such as eggs, chana, suji, chira and muri, and only rice and pulses will be distributed. They also announced that online reporting and Poshan Tracker-related work through mobile phones would be suspended.
The workers urged the administration to take immediate steps to resolve the issue, ensuring that children’s nutrition services are not affected and that their legitimate dues are cleared at the earliest.
