Track repairs on hill section disrupt rail connectivity to Tripura; Several trains rescheduled

Date:

Agartala, 25th July 2026:    Rail services connecting Tripura with the rest of the country have been affected after track settlement was detected near New Harangajao station on the Lumding–Badarpur Hill Section. In view of the safety concerns, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has revised the schedule of several trains operating to and from Tripura and regulated another long-distance service.

The railway authorities informed that train operations on Line-1 and Line-2 have been suspended due to the track settlement, with all movement currently being routed through Line-3 under stringent safety supervision. Passenger trains are not being allowed to pass through the affected section during night hours—from 7:00 pm to 5:00 am—while daytime services are operating under regulated speed and continuous monitoring.

As a result, several trains linked to Tripura have been rescheduled. The Narangi–Agartala Express (Train No. 15650) departing on July 25 and 26 will now leave at 10:30 pm, while the Agartala–Narangi Express (Train No. 15649) on the same dates has been rescheduled to depart at 11:00 pm. The Agartala–Deoghar Express (Train No. 15626), scheduled to commence its journey on July 25, will now start at 11:30 pm. Likewise, the Agartala–Rani Kamalapati Special (Train No. 01666), slated to depart on July 26, has also been rescheduled to 11:30 pm.

In addition, the SMVT Bengaluru–Agartala Express (Train No. 12503), which began its journey on July 24, will be regulated en route depending on operational requirements.

NFR has deployed engineering personnel, railway staff and heavy machinery on a war footing to restore the damaged section. The railway administration said every effort is being made to complete the repair work swiftly and restore normal train operations without compromising passenger safety.
