Agartala, 1st August 2026: A 12-day-old baby girl was found dead inside a well at North Gopalpur village in North Tripura, triggering shock and grief among local residents. The deceased infant was identified as Sushmita Das.
According to police sources, a complaint from the family prompted a team led by Khanindra Nath, Officer-in-Charge of Bazaricherra Police Station, to reach the spot and recover the body. The family alleged that the baby was taken from their home in the early hours by an unidentified woman, who allegedly threw the infant into a nearby well. Senior officials from the Patharkandi sub-divisional administration and district police also visited the site. The body was sent to the district hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police said all possible angles are being examined and the exact circumstances will be established after the post-mortem and further investigation.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in South Tripura, a man identified as Mom Mog was found lying dead on a road at Jamin Chandra Para in East Sabroom on Saturday. Police and a forensic team reached the spot and initiated an investigation. His body was sent to the morgue for post-mortem. The exact cause of death remains unknown.
