Agartala, 1st August 2026: The Brahma Kumaris have launched an ambitious nationwide campaign to create awareness against substance abuse and secure pledges from at least 10 crore people to either quit addiction or never fall prey to it, BK Jonali, In-Charge of the organisation, said.
Speaking about the campaign, Jonali said she oversees the Brahma Kumaris’ activities across Tripura, Meghalaya, Manipur, Lower Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Bangladesh. She said teams have already been formed and have been travelling across the region for the past month to prepare for the campaign, with the government extending substantial cooperation, including vehicles and necessary permissions.
“We have resolved to administer this pledge to 100 million (10 crore) people across India. We are working towards a drug-free India,” Jonali said.
According to her, the core campaign will be conducted from August 6 to August 20, with Brahma Kumaris centres across the country reaching out to schools, colleges, social organisations, clubs and communities. The official launch is scheduled between 10:30 AM and 12:00 PM, while different states and districts will organise launch programmes according to their respective schedules.
Jonali said the campaign will focus particularly on children and young people. Teams will interact with students, counsel them on the dangers of substance abuse and encourage them to take a pledge to remain free from addiction. Guardians will also be invited for counselling and encouraged to take the pledge.
Highlighting the damaging impact of addiction, she said substance abuse causes social, personal and family problems besides creating serious financial losses and hindering the progress of society.
She appealed to individuals, families, villages, towns and communities to spread awareness among friends, relatives and acquaintances and encourage those struggling with addiction to give it up.
Jonali also stressed the importance of mental strength and spiritual education in overcoming addiction. She said the Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya teaches Rajyoga free of charge to help people develop mental resilience, self-discipline and spiritual understanding.
The organisation currently has around 20–25 centres in Tripura, she said, urging people struggling with addiction to visit any nearby centre and learn Rajyoga.
“Become empowered and help empower society,” Jonali appealed, expressing hope that the campaign would help protect the younger generation from substance abuse and contribute towards making both Tripura and India addiction-free.
