Agartala, 8th August 2026 : A young Tomtom driver sustained critical injuries after his vehicle collided head-on with a long-distance lorry at Netajinagar under Teliamura police station late Friday night.
The injured driver, identified as 18-year-old Diptanu Sarkar, was trapped inside the badly mangled vehicle for over 40 minutes. Local residents, journalists and fire service personnel jointly carried out the rescue operation before shifting him to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital. He was later referred to GBP Hospital, Agartala, as his condition deteriorated.
According to reports, Diptanu was travelling from Teliamura towards Chakmaghat in a Mahindra Tomtom (TR-06A-1976) when the accident occurred around 11 pm.
The incident has renewed concerns over the lack of modern rescue equipment along the Assam-Agartala National Highway. Locals urged authorities to strengthen emergency infrastructure to ensure quicker rescue of accident victims. Teliamura Police have begun an investigation into the cause of the collision.
