Agartala, 10th August 2026: The plight of commuters remains severe due to the dilapidated condition of the Kakraban–Shalgara road under Kakraban RD Block in Udaipur subdivision. Reports indicate that the 13 kilometre stretch has been in disrepair for a long time, yet neither local leaders nor the administration have taken any initiative to address the issue.
Residents allege that whenever they prepared to launch protests over the road’s condition, ruling party leaders intervened to suppress the agitation. Once a busy route where three buses operated even after 2018, the road has now become unsuitable for large vehicles. Only autos and small cars ply the stretch, while frequent minor accidents have become a common occurrence.
Locals complain that despite widespread awareness of the problem, no steps have been taken to improve the situation. Sources suggest that commuters are preparing to launch a fresh movement in the coming days. The local MLA has also been accused of showing no interest in resolving the matter.
A resident, unwilling to be named, remarked bitterly: “Before elections, promises are one thing; after elections, reality is another. This is how we are forced to live.”
