Date:

Agartala, 14th August 2026 :  Security has been further intensified across West Tripura district, including Agartala, ahead of Independence Day, with Tripura Police working in clase coordination with the CRPF, BSF and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) to ensure foolproof security arrangements.

West Tripura Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, accompanied by Additional SPs SDPOs and senior officials from other security agencies, said intensified patrolling is underway across the district, particularly along the international border. Additional manpower has also been deployed at strategic locations

Joint patrolling, mobile check posts and naka points have been established, while border areas have been placed on high alert as part of the heightened security measures.

“Security arrangements have been strengthened across the district. All sister agencies are working in close coordination to ensure a peaceful Independence Day” Pathak said

Security checks have also been stepped up at the airport and railway stations, with dog squads deployed to assist in the security operation. Special TSR operations are being conducted in interior and sensitive areas of the district.

Meanwhile, police have intensified their drive against the drug menace across West Tripura, including Agartala city. Naka checking has been increased at several locations, while the beat policing system is also being strengthened

According to Pathak, contact numbers of beat police officers will be displayed at prominent locations in urban areas to enable residents to reach the police quickly in case of emergencies.

The SP said the enhanced security measures would remain in force during the Independence Day celebrations, with all agencies maintaining close coordination to prevent any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, Pathak said the investigation into the death of Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankar is progressing using scientific and technical methods. He said investigators are examining every possible aspect of the case and assured that no stone will be left untuned to establish the facts
