Agartala, 20th August 2026 : The Tripura Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, has approved a number of proposals aimed at strengthening manpower in various government departments, including the recruitment of 1,177 personnel and the creation of 305 new posts.
Cabinet Spokesperson and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced the decisions at a press conference at the Secretariat on Thursday.
Among the key recruitment decisions, the Cabinet cleared the direct appointment of 916 Constables, comprising both men and women, in the Tripura Police under the Home Department. The selection process will include a physical test, written examination and viva voce, with the recruitment board functioning under the supervision of the Director General of Police.
The Cabinet also sanctioned the recruitment of 219 Lower Division Clerks (LDCs) in the Health and Family Welfare Department through the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT).
In addition, 27 Group-C technical posts under the General Administration (Printing & Stationery) Department will be filled through JRBT. These include posts such as Chargeman, Chargeman Retouching, Chargeman Offset Machine, Copy Holder, Kokborok Copy Holder, Machine Man and Binder.
A significant decision was the approval for the creation of 105 posts for four proposed Government Railway Police (GRP) stations at Bishramganj, Udaipur, Belonia and Sabroom. The sanctioned manpower includes three Sub-Inspectors, 11 Women Sub-Inspectors, nine Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 21 Women Head Constables, 56 Women Constables and five Constable Drivers.
The Cabinet also approved the filling of 15 fixed-pay posts under the Tribal Welfare Department through JRBT, including LDC and Multi-Tasking Staff positions.
Meanwhile, the Higher Education Department received approval for the creation of 200 Assistant Professor posts for Government General Degree Colleges across the state. Chowdhury clarified that the decision concerns creation of posts and does not amount to their immediate recruitment.
The Cabinet further approved the Sri Sri University, Tripura Bill, 2026, paving the way for the establishment of a university with provisions to offer certificates, diplomas, postgraduate diplomas, bachelor’s and master’s degrees, MPhil and PhD programmes, as well as post-doctoral and honorary degrees such as D.Litt and D.Sc.
The proposed university may introduce programmes in science, engineering and technology, architecture and planning, social sciences and humanities, commerce and management, AYUSH, yoga and naturopathy, medical sciences and other disciplines as determined by its Executive Council.
Chowdhury said the decisions, particularly the recruitment of 916 police constables and the creation of manpower for the new GRP stations, reflect the government’s efforts to improve human resources, strengthen law enforcement and enhance public services across Tripura.
