Agartala, 28th August 2026: Members of the surrendered insurgent groups ATTF and NLFT once again took to the streets on Friday, pressing for their seven-point charter of demands. Protesters staged a blockade on the Assam–Agartala National Highway at Champaknagar and obstructed railway tracks at Brigudas, raising concerns over disruption of road and rail services.
The agitators alleged that despite surrendering years ago, promises made by the central and state governments regarding rehabilitation, financial aid, and other facilities remain largely unfulfilled. They claimed repeated appeals to the administration have failed to yield permanent solutions.
Earlier, similar demonstrations had been organized in Champaknagar and other areas, where authorities assured that their demands would be considered. However, protesters now accuse the administration of failing to act on those assurances, prompting them to intensify their movement.
From Friday morning, agitators occupied the highway and railway tracks, vowing to continue until their seven demands are met. They declared that this time, mere administrative assurances would not suffice. Only direct intervention and concrete commitments from the Chief Minister and the Tribal Welfare Department would lead to withdrawal of the blockade.
Meanwhile, simultaneous obstruction of road and rail routes has raised fears of severe inconvenience for commuters and transport operators. Authorities have stepped up monitoring at the protest sites and initiated dialogue with the demonstrators in an effort to restore normalcy.
