Agartala, 1st September 2026 :Tripura University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Debabrata Das on Tuesday urged newly admitted students to stay away from substance abuse, value every moment and focus on building their skills and character as they embark on their university life.
Addressing the Deeksharambh (Students’ Induction Programme) 2026 at Maharaja Bir Bikram Shatabarshiki Bhawan in Suryamaninagar, Prof. Das emphasised the importance of maintaining a positive outlook and making productive use of time.
“Every moment of life is important,” he told the students, encouraging them to make their university years meaningful while balancing academics with family, friendships and personal growth.
The Vice-Chancellor made a special appeal to the freshers to keep away from intoxicants. He advised them not to look for excuses that could lead them towards substance abuse, but instead to find reasons to adopt healthier habits and improve their lives.
Prof. Das also cautioned students against judging their progress by comparing themselves with others. He encouraged them to compete with their own previous achievements, strengthen their abilities and continuously work towards self-improvement.
Highlighting the importance of opportunities, he said students should learn to recognise the right opportunities and make effective use of them at the appropriate time. According to him, the ability to identify and utilise such opportunities can play an important role in shaping one’s future.
He also urged students not to lose hope when faced with challenges. Referring to the growing complexity of problems in the modern world, Prof. Das said many challenges require collective rather than individual efforts.
Emphasising teamwork, he encouraged students to learn from one another and develop the ability to work collectively to overcome difficult situations.
University officiating Registrar Prof. Samir Kumar Sil advised the students to complete their responsibilities on time and maintain regularity in their studies. He underlined discipline and consistency as essential qualities for academic success.
Lt. Col. Rohan Gupta highlighted the role of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in promoting discipline, leadership and a responsible outlook among young people. He also briefed the students about different aspects of NCC training.
Prof. Chinmoy Roy, Prof. Parthasarathi Gupta, Finance Officer Debashish Pal, Prof. Indranil Bhowmik and Prof. Ashesh Gupta were among those present at the programme. Dr. Sindhu Paudyal proposed the vote of thanks.
The Deeksharambh 2026 programme was organised to welcome newly admitted students and familiarise them with the academic environment, opportunities and responsibilities associated with life at the Central University.
