Agartala, 3rd September 2026 : An innovative rural entrepreneur from Tripura’s Khowai district is proving that sustainable ideas, backed by institutional support, can turn even waste materials into a viable source of livelihood.
Lipi Bhowmik of Paschim Sonatala has emerged as an inspiring example of women-led entrepreneurship by manufacturing a range of eco-friendly products from dried cow dung, including decorative idols, diyas and folders.
Her venture received a significant boost after securing financial assistance of ₹5.10 lakh through the Tripura Rural Livelihoods Mission (TRLM). The enterprise is not only generating income but is also promoting the concept of recycling and sustainable production by transforming readily available waste into marketable products.
TRLM Chief Executive Officer Tarit Kanti Chakma, accompanied by the DMC of Khowai and other officials, recently visited Lipi Bhowmik’s enterprise. The visiting team appreciated her innovative approach and efforts towards creating a sustainable livelihood through entrepreneurship.
Apart from managing her business, Lipi is actively associated with grassroots development activities. She works as a Krishi Sakhi and is also a member of the Loknath Self-Help Group, contributing to agriculture-related initiatives and women’s collective empowerment.
Her journey reflects the growing impact of Self-Help Groups and rural livelihood programmes in encouraging women to explore entrepreneurship. By combining financial support with innovation, Lipi Bhowmik has successfully carved out a unique business model and moved closer to the vision of building self-reliant and economically empowered rural women under the Lakhpati Didi initiative.
