Border Dispute Halts Embankment Repair Work Along Manu River; Minister inspect

Date:

Agartala, 4th September 2026 :  Repair and renovation work on the embankment along the Manu River has been affected by a border-related dispute in the Latiapur Gram Panchayat area under Gournagar RD Block in Unakoti district.

According to local sources, a portion of the embankment repair work has remained suspended after the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) reportedly raised objections to the ongoing work in the area.

State Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy visited the site on Friday to assess the situation on the ground. He was accompanied by Tripura State Waqf Board Chairman Mobswar Ali, along with other public representatives and officials concerned.

During the inspection, Minister Roy took stock of the present condition of the Manu River embankment, reviewed the progress of the repair work and sought details regarding the portion that remains incomplete due to the reported objection from the BGB.

The repair of the embankment is considered crucial for protecting local residents and preventing riverbank erosion, particularly during the monsoon season. However, the border-related complications have emerged as a hurdle to completing the work.

During his visit, Minister Roy also discussed the situation with the officials concerned and examined possible steps to resolve the issue and facilitate the early completion of the pending repair work.

The authorities are now expected to coordinate with the concerned agencies to address the border-related issue and ensure that the necessary embankment protection work can resume at the earliest.
