Agartala, 8th September 2026 : Tension has reportedly surfaced in the Haflong Bazar area of Dharmanagar following an alleged incident involving the collection of subscriptions for Biswakarma Puja. A container truck driver has accused a group of youths of assaulting him and taking away cash after he refused to pay a second subscription.
The driver, identified as Pintu Maisho Das of Kailashahar, was travelling from Agartala to Silchar on Monday night with a consignment of online retail goods when the alleged incident took place. According to Pintu, his vehicle was intercepted near Haflong Bazar by a group of youths who demanded money for Biswakarma Puja.
Pintu reportedly told them that he had already paid a subscription and questioned the demand for another contribution. He alleged that the youths continued to pressure him, following which an argument broke out and the situation turned violent.
According to his allegation, around 15 to 20 youths assaulted him and allegedly took cash that he was carrying for vehicle-related expenses. Pintu said he had started with around Rs 22,000 and had spent nearly Rs 6,000 on fuel, leaving approximately Rs 16,000. He alleged that the remaining amount was taken during the incident.
The driver claimed that he informed the police and reported the matter at the police station the same night. However, he alleged that even after nearly 12 hours, he had not received any clear information about action taken in the case.
Pintu also showed the media a receipt bearing the name of the Dharmanagar Medium Truck Owners Association. He claimed the receipt was linked to Biswakarma Puja subscription collection and demanded that the association’s office-bearers be questioned.
Meanwhile, representatives of the PNG organisation reportedly visited Dharmanagar Police Station on Tuesday morning and held discussions with police officials.
The identities of those involved and the exact circumstances remain under investigation. The allegations have not yet been independently verified, and the facts are expected to emerge after the police inquiry.
