Tension during scrutiny of village council nominations at Mandai

Date:

Agartala, 9th September 2026 :   Tension flared up at Mandai Block on Wednesday during the scrutiny of nomination papers for the upcoming village council elections, after CPI(M) workers and supporters staged a road blockade alleging obstruction in the scrutiny process for Left Front and independent candidates.

The Left parties alleged that opposition candidates were being denied an opportunity to participate in the scrutiny of their nomination papers despite the presence of police and security personnel at the block office.

According to the protesters, the scrutiny of nomination papers submitted by candidates of various political parties was scheduled for Wednesday. However, a large gathering outside the Mandai Block office allegedly disrupted the process, particularly for CPI(M) and independent candidates.

The protesters claimed that they repeatedly approached administrative officials seeking intervention. They also alleged that despite several conversations with the SDO and assurances that the issue would be resolved, no effective steps were taken to facilitate the scrutiny process.

Agitated CPI(M) workers and supporters subsequently staged a sit-in on the road outside the Mandai Block office. They alleged that adequate police and security personnel were present at the spot but failed to take effective measures to ensure that opposition candidates could undergo scrutiny without obstruction.

The incident created tension in and around the Mandai Block premises. The Left parties demanded equal opportunity for all candidates and called for transparency and fairness in the scrutiny process.
