MMD College, Sabroom holds awareness program on HIV-AIDS

Agartala, 9th September 2026 :  The NSS Unit of Michael Madhusudan Dutta (MMD) College, Sabroom on Wednesday organized an awareness program on HIV/AIDS  in collaboration with the Voluntary Social Development Organization (VSDO) at  Swami Vivekananda Auditorium of the college.

The primary aim of this program was to increase awareness about the global HIV/AIDS pandemic caused by HIV infection. The event was attended by Dr. Anupam Guha, Principal,  Dr. Soumik Hazra, Medical Officer of Sabroom Sub-Divisional Hospital, NSS Program Officer Dr. Arup Patari, VSDO Project Officer Krishna Majumdar, Accountant Sukhanta Chowdhury along with professors, students, and other attendees.

The program began with a discussion on HIV/AIDS, including information about the disease, preventive measures, and the role of government hospitals and NGOs. The main objective was to make the youth aware of the impact of HIV/AIDS and motivate them to adopt a healthy lifestyle. It was highlighted that the situation is becoming increasingly alarming, with rising rates of HIV infection alongside drug abuse through injections. The importance of preventing drug trafficking and usage, as well as HIV transmission, was emphasized, and students were urged to come forward and participate in prevention efforts. It was also mentioned that recent government initiatives are prioritizing HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. The message was clear: there is no room for fear—awareness is the only weapon.

Later, members of VSDO, along with professors and students, conducted self-assessment tests on smartphones related to HIV/AIDS, registered interested students, and offered them HIV testing. Approximately five hundred students participated in this activity.

Furthermore, NSS volunteers distributed awareness leaflets, conducted self-assessment tests, and screening for HIV/AIDS in the Das Para, an  adopted village of college NSS unit. The enthusiasm and active participation of students in today’s event were highly commendable.
