Agartala, 9th September 2026 : Panic and concern spread across the Sonatala area of Khowai after the body of a middle-aged woman was recovered from a waterbody near Jhilimili Park on Wednesday.
According to local sources, residents spotted the woman’s body in the water and immediately informed the police. A police team reached the spot and recovered the body.
Police said the deceased was reportedly a resident of the same area. Preliminary suspicion suggests that she may have accidentally fallen into the water and drowned. However, the exact circumstances surrounding her death have not yet been established.The body was taken to Khowai District Hospital and later kept at the hospital mortuary. Police are expected to conduct a post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.
Authorities are investigating whether the incident was an accidental drowning or whether there was any other factor involved. The incident has cast a pall of grief and shock over the area.
