Alleged Land Grab in the Name of Club Construction Raises Questions Over Law and Order

Agartala, 13th September 2026 :  A family in Agartala has alleged an attempt to occupy a portion of its residential property in the name of constructing a club, and has sought intervention from the district administration and police.

According to a complaint attributed to local resident Biswajit Sarkar, the alleged incident took place in the Ramthakur Lane area near Durga Chowmuhani Market in Agartala.

Sarkar has alleged that around 24–25 days ago, several people, including Chambal Das, Narayan Pal and Bhabatosh Sarkar, along with others, went to his residence and allegedly attempted to install three pillars on a portion of the property. The family reportedly objected to the move.

The complainant claims that his family has been residing on the property for around 45 years and that the ownership or legal status of the land had not previously been disputed in this manner.

According to the complaint, the individuals allegedly claimed that the property included both jote and khas land. Sarkar subsequently approached the West Tripura District Magistrate and the Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate, requesting that any dispute over the legal status of the land be resolved through due legal procedure.

The family has also alleged that despite approaching the authorities, no effective action was taken for several days.

Sarkar further alleges that the matter escalated on Sunday when a group of people entered the residence, damaged property and allegedly took away household items. The family also claims that several plants and saplings were damaged during the incident.
