Agartala, 15th September 2026 : Tension prevailed in the West Hawaibari Kuki Colony area under Teli¬amura police station following allegations of theft and drug-related activities. Local residents claimed that complaints of theft of various items and alleged drug peddling had been reported in the area for a considerable period.
According to local residents, two youths were detained early Tuesday morning on suspicion of being involved in alleged drug-related activities. During questioning, the names of a local youth, identified as Kalu, and his brother reportedly emerged, following which the two were also detained by the residents.
In all, four youths were reportedly detained by the local people. Residents further claimed that containers allegedly used for drugs were recovered from the possession of the detained youths.
The incident created considerable tension in the area. The residents reportedly assaulted the youths and tied them to a betel-nut tree before handing them over to the police.
On receiving information, personnel from Teli¬amura Police Station reached the spot and took all four youths into custody. Police have reportedly recovered the suspected drug containers and initiated an investigation into the incident.
Local residents also alleged that the youths had allegedly been involved in repeated incidents of goat theft, claiming that they would occasionally arrive in vehicles and steal goats from the area.
Residents said that allegations of theft and drug-related activities had created an atmosphere of fear and concern in the locality for some time, leading to growing anger among the people.
However, the allegations against the four detained youths, the nature of the materials reportedly recovered from them, and their alleged links with drug-related activities have not yet been established. The facts of the case will become clear only after completion of the police investigation.
Residents of West Hawaibari Kuki Colony are now awaiting the outcome of the police probe.
It is important to note that the High Court’s observations are prima facie observations and not a final judgment. The Court has only stayed further action pending the next hearing and has not conclusively determined the allegations or the merits of the case.
