Agartala, 30th September 2026 : Tripura Education (Higher) Department has authorised all government general degree colleges, professional and technical degree colleges and diploma-level technical institutes to engage Guest/Visiting Lecturers for 11 months during the academic year 2026-27 to address the shortage of teachers and ensure smooth academic activities.
According to a memorandum issued by the department on September 25, guest lecturers will be paid an honorarium of Rs 500 per class, subject to a maximum ceiling of 72 classes per month. This means a guest lecturer can receive up to Rs 36,000 per month.
The department stated that the engagement will be made on merit while following the reservation policy of the State Government.
Apart from classroom teaching, guest lecturers may also be assigned other academic duties by the respective college or institute authorities. However, direct teaching by an individual guest lecturer cannot exceed 72 classes in a month throughout the 11-month engagement period.
The memorandum further directs colleges and institutes to strictly follow the applicable UGC or AICTE regulations while engaging guest lecturers.
A guest lecturer engaged at one college or institute will not be permitted to simultaneously work as a guest lecturer at another institution.
The honorarium will be drawn from the funds allocated to the respective colleges or institutes. The department has also attached an Annexure-A specifying the number of guest/visiting lecturers allotted to each college and institute and principals and principal-in-charges have been directed to make appointments according to the sanctioned numbers.
The decision has been taken with the concurrence of the Finance Department through its communications dated September 7 and September 16, 2026.
