Left groups demand CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation at Udaipur

Date:

Agartala,  12th  October 2026 :  Left-wing student and youth organisations staged a protest march in Udaipur on Monday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls.

The march was organised by SFI, DYFI, TSU and TYFI, beginning at Jamtala and passing through Central Road, Old Motor Stand, the banks of Mahadev Dighi and Newtown Road before returning to Jamtala.

Addressing the gathering, youth leader Nabarun Deb alleged that several lakh genuine voters had been removed from electoral rolls to help the BJP retain power. He claimed that the issue had triggered protests across the country and demanded Kumar’s resignation.

Deb said the Left-wing student and youth organisations would continue their agitation in Tripura in solidarity with similar protests elsewhere until the Chief Election Commissioner stepped down. The programme concluded with the burning of an effigy of Gyanesh Kumar.
