Agartala, 12th October 2026 : A walkathon was organised in Ambassa on Monday to mark the eighth anniversary of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and the fifth anniversary of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), with a focus on raising public awareness about government healthcare schemes and digital health services.
The programme was organised by the Dhalai District Health and Family Welfare Department under the management of the Chief Medical Officer’s office in Ambassa.
Pratima Malakar, Chairperson of the Ambassa Municipal Council, inaugurated the event by lighting a ceremonial lamp. Dr Sukanta Ghosh, Dr Sudhir Debbarma and Dr Pratima Sutradhar were among the dignitaries present.
The walkathon began at the premises of the Panchayati Raj Training Institute (PRTI) in Ambassa and proceeded towards the traffic police point at Ambassa market. Members of the Block Mission Management Committee (BMC), resource persons, Community Health Officers, Multi-Purpose Workers, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), ASHA workers, municipal sanitation workers and beneficiaries of various health schemes participated in the programme.
The initiative aimed to familiarise people with the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, the Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. Special emphasis was laid on informing eligible families about accessing cashless medical treatment under applicable health schemes and understanding the benefits of digital healthcare services.
The Health and Family Welfare Department highlighted the importance of making healthcare more accessible and technology-driven. It also stressed that greater public awareness of government health initiatives could help eligible beneficiaries access available medical facilities and entitlements.
Officials said such awareness programmes play an important role in disseminating accurate information about healthcare schemes and encouraging people to make better use of government health services. Promoting awareness of digital health facilities was also a key objective of the walkathon.
