Agartala, 12th October 2026 : In a drive to ensure public health and food safety, a joint inspection team on Monday conducted checks at various hotels, restaurants and retail shops across Belonia town in South Tripura district.
The inspection was carried out in the presence of the Deputy Collector and Magistrate (DCM) of Belonia subdivision, the Food Inspector, the Food Safety Officer and other officials.
During the drive, a large quantity of expired food items was seized and destroyed. The DCM also imposed fines on establishments where irregularities were detected during the inspection.
In a significant action, a restaurant was sealed after officials found unhygienic conditions and spoiled food items stored on its premises. The action was taken to prevent potential health risks to consumers and ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
The inspection drive aimed to promote hygienic food handling practices and discourage the sale and use of expired or spoiled food products.
Officials urged hotel and restaurant owners, as well as retail traders, to strictly follow food safety norms, maintain proper hygiene and ensure that only safe and quality food is served or sold to customers.
The authorities emphasised that maintaining food safety standards is essential for protecting public health and called upon all food business operators to act responsibly.
