TMP MLA threatens to give up security cover over repeated PSO changes, seeks CM’s intervention

Date:

Agartala, 23rd October 2026 : Alleging persistent irregularities in the management of his personal security, Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma has decided to surrender his security cover, accusing the concerned authorities of repeatedly changing his Personal Security Officers (PSOs) without providing a satisfactory explanation.

At a press conference on Friday, Debbarma appealed to Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha to intervene in the matter and review the security arrangements provided to Tipra Motha MLAs and Members of the District Council (MDCs).

The legislator said one of his PSOs was withdrawn on October 10, shortly before Durga Puja, without any prior notice or formal communication. He termed the development concerning, particularly in view of the security requirements during the festive season.

Debbarma said he subsequently wrote to the police security wing on October 13 and sent copies of the communication to the Chief Minister and the Director General of Police (DGP). However, he alleged that his repeated appeals had failed to elicit any response from the authorities.

Recalling his experience over the past four-and-a-half years as an MLA, Debbarma said his security personnel had been replaced on numerous occasions. He questioned why such changes were being made without adequate clarification, adding that he would have understood the decision if a specific complaint had been raised against any PSO.

He also claimed that several other Tipra Motha MLAs and MDCs had experienced similar changes in their security arrangements, calling for a thorough examination of the issue.

Announcing his decision to return to his village without security personnel, Debbarma said he would continue his organisational work and travel across the district to attend various programmes. He urged the Chief Minister to personally investigate the allegations and ensure accountability in the management of legislators’ security.
