Agartala, 2nd November 2026 : Discontent is reportedly brewing within the BJP over the selection of candidates for Wards 46 and 51 under the 18-Suryamani Nagar Assembly constituency, with allegations that party tickets are being offered for amounts ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
According to party sources, a senior leader has reportedly recommended the name of Shubham Ghosh, who belongs to a Congress family, to the Mandal leadership for a BJP ticket in exchange for Rs 5 lakh. The alleged move has triggered strong resentment among booth presidents and Shakti Kendra in-charges of Ward No. 51.
Expressing their displeasure, the party functionaries have reportedly warned that they would neither vote for the BJP nor participate in any party activities during the upcoming elections if the proposed candidate is selected.
They have categorically demanded that Abhijit Saha be nominated as the party candidate from the area. Otherwise, they have warned, the party leadership will have to face the consequences. This is what has reportedly emerged from party sources.
Party members have said that Abhijit Saha randomly works for the people in the area and has helped financially many of them

However, the BJP has not yet officially announced its candidate list. State-level leaders are currently engaged in hectic discussions over candidate selection. To prevent any possible dissatisfaction following the announcement, the leadership is holding a series of meetings with party functionaries.
A meeting of the BJP Core Committee began at 11 am on Monday, where discussions on candidate selection are understood to be underway.
Until the official candidate list is announced, no prediction can be made with certainty. It remains to be seen whether the party leadership ultimately backs a candidate from a Congress family or gives preference to its own grassroots workers.
