Agartala, 3rd November 2026 : Tension prevailed at the Karbook Block office on Tuesday after members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Community Service Provider (CSP) women’s groups locked the main gate of the office, demanding the transfer of Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) Cluster Coordinator Suman Debnath.
The protest led to an obstruction of official work, with the agitating women refusing to open the gate until their demands were addressed. The situation became tense when the Block Development Officer (BDO), who is also an Executive Magistrate, arrived at the spot and attempted to persuade the protesters to unlock the gate and hold discussions inside the office.
During the exchange, the women insisted that the administration give them a clear assurance regarding the transfer of Suman Debnath. They maintained that they would not withdraw the agitation without a definite commitment on when their grievances would be addressed.
The Executive Magistrate cautioned the protesters against locking the office gate, pointing out that official matters should be discussed inside the premises rather than through obstruction at the entrance or in a public marketplace. He repeatedly urged them to attend a meeting in the conference hall, assuring them that their concerns would be heard in the presence of the concerned officials.
However, the protesters remained firm, demanding an assurance before agreeing to enter the office.
Speaking after interacting with the women, the BDO said that he had found them protesting in front of the block office upon his arrival. He added that they had raised certain grievances concerning the Cluster Level Federation (CLF), which had been recorded by the administration.
The BDO assured that appropriate steps would be taken to address the complaints. However, the immediate outcome of the demand for Suman Debnath’s transfer remained unclear.
