Agartala, 3rd November 2026 : Alleging that the RSS and BJP were weakening democratic institutions and compromising constitutional rights, Left-wing leader Aishe Ghosh on Tuesday called for a united movement to protect education, democracy and the Constitution during her visit to Tripura.
Ghosh criticised the policies of the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in various states, alleging that education was increasingly being turned into a commercial enterprise, making it more expensive and inaccessible for ordinary families. She claimed that the country’s education system was facing a systematic assault alongside growing restrictions on people’s constitutional rights.
Referring to the situation in Tripura, she said the state was also experiencing similar developments and stressed the need for collective resistance. Ghosh was in the state to attend programmes organised by the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI).
She said the organisations were taking their demands to the streets at a time when elections were approaching in different parts of the country. According to her, the immediate challenge was to defend the public education system and ensure that citizens’ constitutional rights remained protected.
Emphasising the role of ordinary people, Ghosh called upon workers, labourers, economically disadvantaged sections and other sections of society to come together in defence of democratic values.
She maintained that the proposed struggle should not be confined to the Left movement or the interests of any particular political organisation. Instead, she described it as a collective responsibility of all those who believe in democracy and the Constitution.
Ghosh said DYFI and SFI would take the lead in organising such resistance in Tripura and urged people to unite against what she alleged were attempts by the RSS and BJP to undermine the country’s democratic framework.
