Agartala, 4th November 2026 : Ahead of the Municipal and Urban Local Body elections, a consignment of firearms and ammunition reportedly arrived in Tripura from Bihar. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of West Agartala Police Station and Battala Police Outpost conducted a raid on Wednesday night in the Bhutanese Market area near the Battala TRTC Complex and arrested two youths from Bihar.
Police recovered three pistols, 50 rounds of ammunition and six magazines from their possession.
According to the police official on duty, the two youths had allegedly arrived in Agartala from Bihar to hand over the firearms, ammunition and magazines to someone in the city.
The incident has triggered considerable concern and created a sensation in the area. The recovery of such a large quantity of firearms and ammunition from the heart of Agartala ahead of the municipal elections has raised serious questions about the possible movement and supply of illegal arms in the state.
Incidents involving firearms in Agartala during election periods are not entirely new. However, this latest recovery has once again brought the issue of illegal arms trafficking and election-time security into sharp focus.
